Private dick?

I'm sitting in my car next to some guy at Gower Gulch in Hollywood....he was on a call and is now making a lot of notes...he also has all these papers he is pulling out of a large envelope...I am having a film noir moment...

I've decided he is definitely a private detective working on a case....especially since he has a fat belly and is sort of "slobby"...am I right, or am I right?
