A Little More Love - a new Occupy anthem...

A friend of mine has been inspired by the Occupy Movement just like the rest of us - check out his video and very catchy tune!

Yep - - it's time to Occupy folks....

Thanks Mac!

Obama and NDAA - dying with disappointment

Obama - ya lost me on this one....you should have veto'ed NDAA
here's a great piece that sums it up.

Weekends are made for...

1. Brunch

2. Santa

3. Spreading the word on NDAA and tweeting CNN about their epic failure to cover something so important (NDAA will allow indefinite detention of American Citizens SUSPECTED of being terrorists) and it's poised to go through...

4. Rallying everyone I know to sign Sanders petition to overturn "corporations are people" BS...

Yes, there was a time when the U S wasn't so off the rails, and you didn't have to play political activist every weekend....but unfortunately those days are gone.

You must OCCUPY your corner of the world!  Read about NDAA and act to fight it (Obama will hopefully veto it) on Tuesday 12/13/11 and sign Bernie Sanders petition referenced above - to overturn Citizens United.

Then go out and play...

Why I can't and won't stop Occupying! Part 3

How to take action.

There are people who are being bold and brave. The winds of change are being fanned by the Occupy Movement - and it is starting to shift.  Last week the Attorney General in MA filed suit against the big banks! Finally someone with balls (a woman) is standing up to the banks and holding them accountable for some of what has been going on...here's the link to the story.

If you want to "Occupy"  - it doesn't mean you have to demonstrate or march - you can take even a small step.  If you feel banks should be held more accountable - call Attorney General Martha Coakley's office and let her know you support what she is doing (617) 727-2200 (I did and I encouraged other people I know to do the same). She is to be commended! All you do is call and ask for the comment line. You could also call the Attorney General in your own state (which we plan to do) and ask them to follow her lead.

Or you can do other things.  Follow Occupy on Facebook (Occupy Wall Street, Occupy LA or a movement in your own city) and if/when you're ready go to a march if you can make the time (which we also do).  Trust me, that doesn't mean we are in the mood to go to some of the marches (some of the time it's  at night after work) but we feel it is our DUTY to become more active because of the shape the country is in.  For us - - we want to make it entirely clear to any elected official and to the media that we are sick of the amount of influence corporations have, their lobbyists etc.  It has just gotten too out of balance.

And if you do go to a march, make your own sign - - take one that says what YOU are most upset about and what you want to support.  No one will tell you what to do - we've done it multiple times and we've never felt more energized about Democracy.

Our signs say things like:

WE ARE THE 99%

I AM HERE BECAUSE WASHINGTON IS BROKEN

THIS IS THE BEGINNING

Remember this is a time where lobbying groups have already mobilized with huge sums of money to smear the Occupy movement. They are already successfully altering what you are hearing. Unfortunately, that is the world we are living in - where people pay each other to say things that aren't really even true. To spin things, to slant things...with absolutely no regard for the truth or the overall welfare of the country.

To me it has all become very Penn State. Protect those in power and uphold the money and institution – at all costs – no matter who gets hurt. There's just no excuse for what is going on in Washington between politicians, lobbyists and corporate greed. It is mind boggling to me when I look at the fallout from it across the country.

I personally no longer care about liberal or conservative. I consider myself liberal but I am fine with conservative beliefs - we can figure out how to co-exist in this country. However, what we cannot do is put up with a governing body that isn't listening to any of us (and they aren't) they are only listening to big money.

So if not Occupy then who?

Who do you think is going to fight this battle for the 99%?
Do you think Washington or the mainstream media are going to do it?
Who beyond Occupy is taking any true, dramatic action?

We both know the answer...and meanwhile, the country keeps floundering.

This is why I can't and won't stop Occupying.

Life goes better with...occupying

I called every single LA city council member today to tell them I liked the unanimous vote against corporate personhood.

I'm pretty upset with most politicians right about now - but I'm happy to give props to those who are going in the right direction.

Way to act like rock stars L.A. City Council!

Why I can't and won't stop Occupying! Part 2

So, why Occupy?

We can't help ourselves. My husband and I are working people. We love this country and know it is in trouble - we just can't stand around and listen to the partisan rhetoric coming out of Washington any longer. Occupy has invited us to take political action in our own lives and we are. We invite you to do the same in your corner of the world. We don't sleep at the camps and nobody at Occupy knows us by name...but there is so much you can do to support these passionate people who are standing up for all of us, without sleeping at a camp or getting arrested.

It all comes down to this - I'm repeating it from my last post because the media is failing so miserably at breaking this down:

Corporate and money influences have corrupted our politicians and determine what they are, or are not, willing to do for us. They don't listen to the 99% (conservatives or liberals), they follow whoever gives them their money for election/re-election.

This is not what the founding fathers had in mind for the country!

Who can't grasp this basic thought and understand why we have a movement fighting this absurdity in Washington?

It is so disappointing to me that the mainstream news can't keep their eye on the ball. They should be helping to bring the overall message of the movement to the masses and then further hammer it home to Washington on behalf of the American public...but they aren't. They should put partisanship aside and bring Americans together - but they don't. Because that wouldn't get them advertising dollars, it isn't inflammatory enough - and America continues to suffer.

Don't be afraid of what the Occupy Movement is about. They are attempting to realign Washington with the individual - not the money/corporation. It is a simple idea and every middle class American who doesn't "own" a politician should support it – it's a no brainer!

Whether you are liberal or conservative no longer matters. What matters is that Washington is too involved with corporate money and influence to listen to us - the individuals across America. That's why we must all join together. We can't let partisans pit us against each other. Left or right - everyone across the middle spectrum does have a common goal - we need our government to respond to us!

This is why you must support the Occupy Movement from out here in mainstream America. You can write emails - you can make phone calls - you can send tweets. When you see something happening you don't like - make a call and when you see something you do like - send an email. If you can make it to a march or rally, great, but if not, that's ok too - just take one small action.

Our government must balance the needs of the people against the money making machines called corporations and their lobbyists - they are currently failing miserably. These corporations are showing record profits. They have been rewarded for hurting the country and the average American, and no substantial regulations have been reinstated by Washington - to me, it is criminal how our governing body is behaving.

Who do you think is going to fight this battle for the 99%?
Do you think Washington or the mainstream media are going to do it?
Who beyond Occupy is taking any true, dramatic action?
We all know the answer...

This is why I can't and won't stop Occupying.

Independent thinkers of our media at work...ha ha ha!

Why I can't and won't stop Occupying! Part 1

I love my city. I was born in Hollywood and I love this country...greetings from LA.

What can I say? I'm just another Joe who is so pissed off at our government and the media:

"I'm mad as hell and I'm not gonna take it anymore..."

THE OCCUPY MOVEMENT IS SAYING WHAT WE'VE ALL BEEN FEELING!

I realize some of you might be wondering what Occupy Wall Street is about, or you are already against it because you've been watching the mainstream news. They've painted this absurd picture of whiners gathering at a park who want handouts from America. People, if you get nothing else from my little rant:

THE WHINERS WHO GOT HANDOUTS FROM AMERICA ARE THE BANKS AND MONIED CORPORATIONS.  THEY ARE CONTROLLING OUR GOVERNMENT. THAT'S WHO GETS HANDOUTS IN AMERICA! THE PEOPLE AT OCCUPY ARE NOT THE CULPRITS!

The news flat out misleads about Occupy and focuses on the most ridiculous elements of the movement.  It's a vicious cycle we are now living in. Misinformation and sound bites floating around separate from the truth. Last I listened, most media talking heads were too dumb to explain the deeper meaning of Occupy and had no real interest in the truth. This kind of reporting is hurting us all. It's tragic and it's embarrassing. I'm embarrassed for those behaving so superficially. Who among us doesn't understand the country is in dire straits and that people are sick of the political games? Or that it would also be a fabulous thing to have a movement trying to break the inertia in politics?  Well, we have that budding grassroots movement right at our fingertips, and what does the mainstream press choose to give us? Photos of fringe elements, reports on "weirdos" at the camps and concerns about how they don't understand what "they" (Occupy) want.  It is so misguided and disingenuous it makes me want to just throw up. The basic point of this movement is so easily understood - for the mainstream press to handle it as poorly as they have - they're either really stupid or completely disinterested in the true welfare of the country.  Here is the basic premise that the mainstream media just can't get their pea brains around and communicate it to the masses (in my opinion):

Corporate and money influences have corrupted our politicians and determine what they are, or are not, willing to do for us. They don't listen to the 99% (conservatives or liberals), they follow whoever gives them their money for election/re-election.

We (the 99% or majority) have had it!

This is not what the founding fathers had in mind for the country!

There, mainstream media, is that simple enough for you?

Some background on how I got involved with Occupy...I first heard of it on Bill Maher in September, when Michael Moore was a guest (thank you Bill and Michael). They mentioned there was this movement (a camp near Wall Street) in NYC that wasn't getting any press. My husband and I were stunned - what movement near Wall Street? We dug deeper and couldn't believe as people who are on and off our laptops constantly, we hadn't seen a single word about the Occupy movement online. Again, big huge mainstream news #FAIL. But alas, that IS generally how the mainstream media is...they aren't really doing their job.  They are entertainers (not even good ones) who pass along gossip in a quest for advertising dollars.

So let me say this - if you are sick to death of "Republican this and Democrat that", if you've had enough of the "debt ceiling debacle" and "super committee" which ain't the least bit super...you should absolutely look into the Occupy Movement. These are people the press should have told you about.  They are upset just like you and me. They have the balls to go out and sleep in a park - or get arrested to raise awareness, and they need mainstream America's support. We owe them a thank you - they're trying to wake Washington from its slumber. These are not the couch potatoes the evening news is telling you about. So forget what you're hearing and get some info directly from the various Occupy websites. Here is the Occupy Wall Street site and here is the Occupy LA site. These are good starting points. You can also search for them in your own city because they are all over the country. This movement is about Americans being fed up and trust me, it's growing fast! It's full of normal people who are sick to death of what is going on with the banks, with Wall Street, with our politicians and with the economy. Find out about these dedicated people by reading their feeds on Facebook, Twitter, etc., but remember you cannot listen exclusively to what the mainstream news is saying because they are lazy, misinformed and in general, not independent thinkers.

There - was that so difficult to spell out?  Nope, didn't think so.

So if not Occupy, then who?

Who do you think is going to fight this battle for the 99%?
Do you think Washington or the mainstream media are going to do it?
Who beyond Occupy is taking any true, dramatic action?

We both know the answer...duh.

and meanwhile, the country keeps floundering along...

This is why I can't and won't stop Occupying.

Occupy is not ending - it is just beginning

They're closing the LA camp tonight - but many many of us across America will still be completely supporting the cause because we know Washington is broken and refuses to fix itself!

My personal homage to change, evolution, revolution!

Open Letter to Bank of America from one of the 99%

Dear Bank of America:

Today I am closing my account with you. But before I head out the door, I just want to write a little love note so I don't leave you wondering about our break-up. BTW, my husband already closed his account and our roommate will soon be joining in as well - yep, we are prime examples of the mass exodus from your bank.

Truly, even before the Occupy Movement started, we regularly talked about your horrible business practices and how we wanted to quit your bank.  It was so many things - like the upping of interest rates on credit cards with perfect payment histories etc etc. At any rate, the whole Occupy Movement just makes it a lot more pleasurable to do so.

So this is my thought today: many people question why the banks are being targeted....and there are a number of reasons (and I'm sure you feel oh so confused). So let me spell it out for you and you'll see it  makes perfect sense: I know Washington has forgotten who they're supposed to work for and they only listen to you and big money - - so, why not have you and all the other big money controlling Washington do our bidding for us? It's just that simple - we need you to carry the message to those big guys in Washington that you have so much pull with.  You are now going to be most useful to the American public acting as a go between.  So, when you have a minute could you do me and the 99% a little favor?

Get Washington to pass the jobs bill or the mass exodus of customers will continue - use your leverage for something good for a change.

If we can't get Washington to listen to the masses or notice the demonstrations.....I bet we can get your shareholders to notice that their stock values are plummeting.

That's right....Washington works for you now and not us - so we have to go through you to get to them and the best way to do it is to take our money away from you.  Yep it's true, Washington and your decision makers have put your shareholders in a very, very, very bad position with the American public.

So, you better get busy lobbying for that jobs bill (and reinstatement of Glass Steagall etc etc) and things that are in the interest of the 99% and the country - - not just corporate America.  If you don't turn this around - your corporation's value is going down the sh*tter.

- One of the 99% who is sick of your sh*t

P.S. Oh, and if this seems unfair to you....well, as we all know - - karma's a bitch.  Perhaps you should take that up with Washington - they're the ones that have treated you like the favorite child while ignorning the rest of us.  As I said, you might want to use your money connections and lobbyists to gently remind them who they work for.  That we didn't "hire" them to obstruct everything the President tries to do - and that they should cooperate with him when it serves the 99%.  It would be in your own best interest to impress upon them that as long as they are serving only big money and corporate America - we are going to make you pay.  Yep, Washington's (and your own) behavior has brought the wrath of the majority down on your head and it ain't going away any time soon!  So I suggest you get busy straightening out this mess in Washington since you (and corporations like you) are the only ones with the influence and power to do it.
