Last night at the Orpheum was a bit of magic. First off it's a great venue. Then with the classic Yoko touches (like the "wish tree" in the lobby which you are invited to participate in by tying your wish on the tree) there was a palpable feeling of being a part of something special.
Guests like Carrie Fisher to RZA to Perry Farrell all belted, rapped and sang their souls out....only to be topped by moments of Yoko and Lady Gaga up ON the piano together (as in climbing up on). Add to all this an amazing "backing" band lead by Sean Lennon, who elegantly alternated between guitar, bass, piano and drums....well, typically these group performances never seem to go well....but honestly, this underproduced show flowed and was beautifully seamless.
It was an alternate universe where there exists no box to be outside of.
Somewhere John Lennon is smiling.
